Audi and BP have announced an exclusive sponsorship and technical partnership as Audi prepares to enter Formula 1 in 2026. Under the new partnership, BP and its specialist lubricants business Castrol are proud to help deliver Audi’s ambition to combine technology and innovation to achieve success in Formula 1. BP will become the first official partner of Audi's future F1 factory team, supplying advanced sustainable fuel required under new FIA regulations. This fuel must achieve at least 65% greenhouse gas emission savings compared to fossil-derived petrol. Castrol, BP's specialist lubricants brand, will develop lubricants for Audi’s V6 turbo engine and EV fluids for its electric components.

This partnership builds on a successful motorsport history, including collaborations in the World Rally Championship, FIA World Endurance Championship, Formula E, and the DTM series. Audi and BP have already been working closely for nearly two years, co-engineering advanced fuels and lubricants to enhance performance for the Audi F1 Power Unit.

Audi F1 team CEO Andreas Seidl expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting the shared goal of advancing technology in fuels and lubricants. Nicola Buck, SVP of Marketing at BP, emphasized the opportunity to showcase BP's and Castrol's technical expertise at the pinnacle of motorsport. Audi Formula Racing CEO Adam Baker noted the importance of the collaboration, given the strong competition in sustainable fuels in F1 starting in 2026.

With this partnership, Audi and BP are set to innovate and redefine the future of sustainable motorsport, combining their expertise to achieve maximum performance on the track.
